The department was established by the University council on 14th February ,2020 , with the aim of transforming it to a faculty. The department is located at the Old College of Health Sciences. The department is endowed with academic staff and non teaching staff. The department is currently awaiting National University Commission accreditation team for the accreditation for the award of degree of Bachelor of Dental surgery. The aim of the program is to provide undergraduate training for the care of oral related anomalies and diseases.
Dentistry is a profession that requires a broad understanding of a spectrum of healthcare and basic sciences, together with specific education in oral sciences. It is the branch of medicine that is involved in the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, commonly in the dentition but also the oral mucosa, and of adjacent and related structures and tissues, particularly in the maxillofacial (jaw and facial) area. Dentistry is widely considered important for overall health. Dental treatment is carried out by the dental team, which often consists of a dentist and dental auxiliaries ( dental nurses,dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and dental therapists).
